connect laptop to project equipment. ?

For Christmas this year (’08) I got my first laptop (Toshiba Satellite L305D) I will be using that computer to create and present many training programs using PowerPoint presentations. My question is this, what do I need to connect my laptop to a projection monitor and/or another computer? One of the places I know that I will be doing a lot of my training sessions has a desk top computer connected to a ceiling mounted projector, but I’m not familiar with how to connect my laptop to projection equipment. If it is simply connecting a universal cord of some sort; I would like to purchase my own, that way I can use it when I go to other facilities to present.

If you can connect your laptop directly to the projector, use a VGA video cable*. A VGA cable is the same one used to connect a monitor to a desktop computer. On your laptop click the CRT/LCD monitor button after connecting the laptop to the projector for auto configuration. Or you can right click on your desktop and select properties then settings to do so manually. You’d have the option of extending your desktop or cloning your desktop. The second option will display exactly what’s on your laptop‘s screen.

If a computer is already connected to the projector, then you’d need to transfer your PowerPoint file to the computer (via thumbdrive or CD) and display it there. You may want to down save your PowerPoint in case the computer has an older version of PowerPoint.
